About the University of Groningen: The Analytical Biochemistry group at the University of Groningen, situated within the Groningen Research Institute of Pharmacy (GRIP), specializes in developing state-of-the-art analytical methods for studying biological macromolecules, particularly proteins and peptides. The group’s primary research focus includes biomarker discovery for critical health conditions such as cancer, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), multiple sclerosis, and type II diabetes. To accomplish this, the team utilizes advanced techniques such as liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry (LC-MS), bioinformatics, and electrochemistry to analyze complex biological samples. Additionally, the group maintains close collaborative ties with the Interfaculty Mass Spectrometry Center (IMSC), enhancing their analytical and research capabilities.

Role within Consortium: In addition to serving as the overall project coordinator, Dr. Lageveen-Kammeijer leads Work Package 2 (WP2 – Target-Drug and Biomarker Selection) and Work Package 7 (WP7 – Project Management and Outreach).

Task Description:

  • WP2: Dr. Lageveen-Kammeijer will lead the analysis of data to clearly identify different types of melanoma (skin cancer). Her team will use advanced techniques to find and select specific proteins that could serve as markers or targets for treatments. The findings will help other parts of the project select promising drugs and treatments tailored specifically for different melanoma types.
  • WP7: Dr. Lageveen-Kammeijer will manage the project’s administration, ensure everything stays on track, organize reports, handle outreach activities to inform the public and stakeholders, and ensure the project follows ethical guidelines, compliance regulations, and promotes gender equality.
